Mike brings Montana sense to Nationwide Commercial Entity.
This past fall, 2015, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices began the formation of a Commercial Advisory Counsel. This counsel consists of a small group of 12 commercial managers and owners from across the country. All participants were invited by Mike Fields, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Commercial Director, to be part of this committee. One of these invited was our own Michael Oliver.
The committee was formed with the purpose to improve and enhance the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices commercial entity. They counsel the decision makers and president of Berkshire Hathaway, answering questions involving the commercial division and its future. But the committee doesn't just wait around for the leaders to ask questions, they have monthly meetings/calls to exchange ideas and opinions that affect the company nationwide. They work towards the improvement of company guidelines, branding, training, recruiting, and procedural policies among other responsibilities. Each of the 12 members from different parts of the country offer their own unique wisdom.
Montana grown, but well traveled and educated, Mike offers a unique and invaluable perspective when working together with the representatives from other areas of the country. "We cannot be specialists." he says about Montana REALTORS® "Industrial, retail, office... ...we have more broad knowledge, but not as specialized." He goes on to explain, in other regions, agents may only deal in retail spaces, some only industrial spaces, or even a subsection of industrial. He uses the example, in places in New York, one commercial agent's territory can be the extent of two city blocks. That simply wouldn't fly here in Montana.
In Montana, and other, more rural states, agents have to understand a little bit about everything, as we have a lot of land to cover and a lot of different industries. It's very important to have that marriage of broad knowledge and specialization that the committee will bring to this large and influential company. It's certainly reassuring to know that the commercial interests of our provincial communities are being represented by a homegrown Montana agent from a homegrown Montana company.
